All of which have been coordinated by Dr. Fernández Delgado, CIM Medical Director, and developed by a chosen team of collaborators, promoting tirelessly in public and private sectors, the diffusion of new procedures and the consolidation of Immediate and Differed Breast Reconstruction.
The first surgical unit of Immediate Breast reconstruction was created in recognition of the innovative clinical practices developed and endorsed by a report from the Unit of Evaluation of New Healthcare Technology of the (Lain Entralgo) Agency of the Community of Madrid.
La Paz became the Hospital of reference for the entire Community of Madrid and for patients coming from many other regions of the country. More than 400 immediate breast reconstructions were done uninterruptedly 80% of possible candidates as well as numerous delayed breast reconstructions in 2009
Sanitas, a leading company in the Spanish private healthcare sector put created a working unit of Immediate Breast Reconstruction in its La Moraleja Hospital March 2007. Based on a previous program in La Paz Hospital, Dr. Fernandez Delgado was put in charge of its coordination.
More than 70 Immediate Breast Reconstructions were done during a period of 3 years on 90% of eligible candidates and numerous Delayed Reconstructions were also done as a result of the new reconstructive program which received extensive media coverage.
Keeping in line with previous work, a new unit of Immediate Breast Reconstruction was formed in January 2009, serving Healthcare Area 2 of Madrid. This center recently underwent a complete remodeling of its facilities. It has always had a special relation with female related illnesses and has a (classical) Maternity Units in Madrid along with a prestigious surgical team specializing in breast cancer to which the Reconstruction Unit has been recently added.
In a period of one and a half years more than 60 immediate breast reconstructions have been done along with many other delayed breast reconstructions.
